Sun Day (2016)
In the neighbourhood where I used to live and still visit regularly, there is a distant reminiscent of a time where some areas like Bonnington Square in Vauxhall, used to be a rundown no go zone in the 80s and the houses left abandoned for decades where restored and made habitable by a community of squatting artists. In 2016 that spirit in a way its still alive with some of the artists that have been living there since, the new generation and the square that is a gathering place for very especial characters. Many people have said to me they find that place magic.
So for the festival of the square, I did a project based on ten posters I painted on site, on the streets, reflecting about the stories, the houses, the remains of the past and just the ACT of Creating in the very street.
I called my friend Eva Maria Offermann that used to live in Berlin, we have been thinking about making something together for a while. She is a graphic designer, especially books, so She took the photos and made the book. We made it in Risograph, it was printed in Berlin but I couldn’t go to see it being printed as I spent all the money I had to make them. We printed 50 copies that was all I could do and the process was slightly painful. I had in mind about four colours but I couldn’t afford it, then three.. no, two… no… just black! And She had the genius idea to make the cover in full colour as a folded poster people could open and stick on their homes and that gave a hint of the full colours the poster were made of and we printed three postcards in full colour that came with the book. Later the little book was selected for a show at the Weserburg Contemporary museum in Bremen, Germany.
I called the book Sun Day, because the festival took place on a Sunday, on a Sunny summer day, just like the yellow paper.

Sun Day (2016)
