Trying to wake up
Living in London for more than ten years but regularly travelling to Chile for the winter like a migratory bird, I decided to stay and live the coldest season fully to discover there is also so much wonder in the bare trees, the pulsating under the soil, the shroud of the deadly frost, the stillness of winter.
At that time I wrote poems to the winter like I never did before, having lived in such a different climate until my 27, never had the experience going beyond minus 2.
So Ode to Winter came forth and I used it as a score for a choreography we did with Yuliya Krylova, a talented Butoh performer. I asked her to write something about rebirth and She came back with a poem about the Phoenix that was the perfect conclusion for the Winter poem.
Me coming from Chile speaking Spanish and Yuliya from Kazakhstan speaking Russian, I recorded our voices reciting in those two languages over a musical bed of abstract atmospheres. Yuliya designed the costume that would reflect this migratory feeling perfectly, the flying away and the pulling from the nest, the hardships of the migrating, attachment, contradiction, loss, reunion.
Tratando de despertar
Viviendo en Londres por más de diez años pero regularmente viajando a Chile por el invierno como un pájaro migratorio, decidí quedarme y vivir la estación más cálida por completo para descubrir que también hay tanta maravilla en los árboles pelados, el pulsar bajo la tierra, el manto mortal de la helada, la quietud del invierno.
Por ese tiempo escribí poemas al Invierno como nunca lo hice antes, habiendo vivido en un clima tal diferente hasta mis 27, nunca tuve al experiencia yendo más allá del menos 2.
Entonces Oda al Invierno se manifestó y lo usé como la música para una coreografía que hicimos con Yuliya Krylova, una talentosa bailarina de Butoh. Le pedí que escribiera algo some el Renacimiento y volvió con un poema sobre el Fénix que fue la conclusión perfecta para el poema de Invierno.
Yo viniendo de Chile hablando Español y Yuliya de Kazakhstan hablando Ruso, grabé nuestras voces recitando en esos dos lenguajes en una cama musical de atmósferas abstractas.
Yuliya diseñó el vestuario que reflejaría este sentimiento migratorio perfectamente, el volar lejos y el tiro del Nido, las dificultades de la migración, el apego, la contradicción, pérdida, reunión.
